Colours of Ostrava, a summer festival.
The area is kind of surreal. It is like stepping into the scene of a Mad max movie. But it is oh so cool and grand. And out of this world… Colours of Ostrava really is Europes coolest summer festival!
We have hopped on the Train going from Prague to Ostrava. To attend this biggest musical festival of the Czech republic. Big names are on the program. And it seems to get bigger and bigger for each year. The festival last from Wednesday to Saturday. I did however attend the days of Thursday and Friday. That means I did not get to see Imagine dragons that opened up on the first day. Bummer.
We arrive early just in time for the program to begin and roam the huge area. The Festival takes place in an abandoned iron factory. The park somehow reminds me very much like a scene out of a Mad Max movie. I would love to walk these premisses when there was no crowds and more abandoned. It it a beautiful backdrop scene.
Gass chambers are made into a concert hall. The old furnaces are part of the museum and you can take the lift to the top of the Bolt tower for an amazing view over the area and Ostrava, the city.
It is a well run festival. Food stands are many and the choices are big. I had a super good Pizza (made from a real pizza oven) at next to nothing prices. To save on litter you get cups to take with you and re use throughout the festival. These have an easy hook system that makes it great for storage. I loved that idea. And there is no plastic cups laying around the ground littering the area. You can shop your festival look inside. Get a makeover. Put blings in your beard (trust me, you really can). Get a fun festival makeup or just a temporary tattoo for the weekend. Why not?
With 20 stages spread around the area there is something for everyone. Big names to local bands. Even a stage for the up and coming. Most of them open air, so make sure you check the weather and dress accordingly to Mother Nature. We had rain on Saturday morning/afternoon but by the time we went back in it cleared up again.
Come night and the atmosphere changes. Light shows, dance shows and the party continues on. Still I see no overly drunk people. The atmosphere is happy and chilled. The age groups are mixed. From families, friends to older. Everybody here to enjoy the music and have fun for the weekend. I enjoyed my self so much that I hope to one day come back
