Festival frenzy, Gladmat the biggest food festival in Scandinavia
Stavanger is filled with different kinds of summer festivals but the food festival Gladmat has to be the biggest one. A festival that continues to pull a lot of people in to the city for it´s 4 days of fun.
This year we made plan to join in on the first day. although we came in a little late (9pm) we still had a lot of fun.
I think there must be nothing that can tempt us locals as much as a great summer day and the food festival. Preferably together. And this year we got really lucky. Opening day came summer and we could not really ask for any more.
It is the smell, the sights, the colors and blended together with a lot of people that makes the food festival such a great arrangement. Rogaland county are often referred to as the food basket of Norway. We produce a great part of food and the region is pretty much a farm region. Well known for it´s tomatoes from Finnøy to vegetables from Orre.
As a region we would do well on our own, as I know some people have made semi-jokes about.

We got it pretty good made right here!
I love to walk around and take in the sights. This year they have introduced the food trucks too.
About 100 vendors sell their specialties from local food to more exotic ones. And most stalls have a small taste menu for 30 NOK. And new for the year is that also the colorful street has joined in. My favorite street of Stavanger by far.
The festival opens up at noon and closes down at 9PM. The party continues on though at the many bars in both the colorful street and in Vågen.
