Pomorskie Culinary trip into Kashubia
The Polish culinary trip continues. After a slow morning in Gdansk, we head down into the woodlands and the area called Kashubia. This region of Pomorskie is more hilly and has a lot of lakes. If you belive the legend this area was created by the Giants whom with its giant feet made the many lakes and the hills.
Just a 45 minutes ride southwest you head into the area of Kashubia. The natives living here has their own language and are considered a minority. Their origin is somewhat unclear but some state that they have scandinavian descendent mixed with slavic. Non the less , they are now listed in Unesco for their language and have their own distinctive culture, dress, art and colours.
First stop is the Vegan friendly Czarny Kos, translated into Blackbird. This resort has a spa and a lovely restaurant where we got served Vegan friendly lunch. A light start of the day. And that hand massage! whoah, I can not remember the last time my hands felt that soft.
We drive further into the Kashubia woodland and visit the other resort of Kozi Grod. Their specialty is hunting meat and we get a crash course on how they smoke their local hunted meat along with a tasting. Surprisingly I really loved the wild boar. The smoked one was so good. Kozi Grod is a hotel and they also have a lovely garden were they host parties and even weddings. Many local people come here during summertime to relax.
Our last stop for the day is our Hotel, Stary Browar Koscierzyna, located in the Kashubia town of Koscierzyna. We are promised a bath in beer, and are really giddy over that idea. Wonderful.
But first a tour of the brewery and a delicious dinner at their own restaurant with Kashubian dishes. Again we are full to the brim with lovely local delicious food. I won’t be eating in a week, I am sure there will be no need.
last leg of this trip will be back to Gdansk for a city sightseeing and nice a finish.
