Stay: Dalen Hotel, the fairytale Hotel.
Welcome to Dalen Hotel, a norwegian fairytale hotel. Built in 1894 for the rich and prominent guest of Europe. This Hotel have been frequented by Royals from all over Europe. And now we have been to.
We make our way over the mountain and into the county of Telemark. A county full of history, old churches and one of Norway´s oldest wooden Hotel. I have only been here for dinner before. But the beautiful building have always been lurking in the back of my mind. And I made the decision to make reservation here for our roadtrip to Oslo.
Elegant Accommodations & Amenities.
Not a bad choice at all. We are greeted by a very informativ and service minded receptionist. Making it all a very welcoming experience. Need any tips on what to do? You will find all your information at your service just ask at the reception. We found a information pamphlet at the room as well. Informing us what activities the Hotel had for the day/week.
Dalen Hotel is one of Norway´s most unique tourist attraction and is again popular with both Norwegians and foreigners. Kept in its original romantic style is has some phenomenal features and very interesting stories.
A proper Hotel always has it´s own ghost story as has Dalen Hotel.
Her name is Miss Greenfield, a English lady who came to visit the hotel at the late 1800 and stayed for several months. In room nr. 17.
When she later left back for London, they found her door barricaded. They finally brake into the room to find a dead baby. Whether she killed it herself or it was still born is not known, but back in London she was caught and had to stand for trail.
Miss Greenfield took her own life before the trail ever started. She is now said to be back at room 17 and our host told us that several people have checked out of this room. unable to stay the night! And many people can still hear child´s cry from the corridor.
Award-Winning Dining Experiences.
We had dinner planned for 7pm. A whooping 5 course french cuisine inspired kitchen. Two hours later and I am stuffed beyond reasons. I really should have gone for the 3 course instead!
After dinner we enjoyed one of the bartenders old style drink and got a little history lesson from the receptionist. A truly magical stay. One I hope I can do again.
