Wurst by wurst – Eating my way through Germany ..
#sponsored
Early sunday morning and even before the city awakens we head out of town. So long Berlin, I might very well be coming back here some day soon to explore more of you! But first on to taste some more Wurst.
We are headed down into the Thüringian area – Erfurt is our next destination. It seems to me that I get a new German favorite in each new city I arrive in. I have to say I was a bit skeptical going into this journey. Would I make it a whole week exploring a total new country to me rather unknown.
But I am so loving this experience and I thought that the communication would be difficult – but not so. Making it with English is just fine.
The new destination for the next couple of days are in the heart of Germany. We jump on DBBahn (the german railway – one of our sponsor) and head for the Weimar where we are to attend the annual onion festival.
A good two hour later and we step out on the platform in Weimar. Bright sun and a scent of winter is in the air. We meet our guide and head down to Goethes city for some wurst and onion tastings.
The onion market is a very old tradition and on my visit it was the 362th time is has been held. That is impressive. The City Weimar best known for the writer Goethe´s home. And you find a lot of references to this writer throughout the town.
Weimar is a small city but at time of the annual onion market they have up to 350 000 visitors making this one of the biggest onion markets in all of Germany.
And as a proper market must, it is has it all. Ferris wheel, food stands, wurst in many ways, crowds and music! You can even find your medieval market her during the weekend of the onion festival.
Wurst tasted: counting 8!
